Bachelor of Science in Nursing Portfolio

About me

Welcome to my BSN portfolio! I am a BSN student from Heritage University with a passion for healthcare, equity, compassion and serving diverse communities.

I grew up in Sunnyside, Washington, a small agricultural community surrounded by farms. Growing up in this environment taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and community support. It also exposed me to the healthcare challenges faced in rural areas, including limited access to care and language barriers affecting many Spanish speaking families. These experiences inspired my commitment to providing culturally sensitive, equitable, and accessible care. My academic background in biology has strengthened my understanding of human health and the sciences. Alongside my nursing education, I have participated in multiple research experiences that have helped me develop skills in critical thinking, evidence-based practice and analyzing health related outcomes. My passion for pediatrics has grown throughout my clinicals and academic journey, and my goal is to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP). I am passionate about supporting children and their families during important stages of growth and development, while providing compassionate, family-centered care. Throughout my BSN program, I have developed a strong foundation in patient-centered care, holistic nursing principles, and evidence-based practice. Each experience has strengthened my commitment to lifelong learning and my desire to provide high-quality care that meets the needs of diverse and underserved populations. As I continue my nursing journey, I look forward to growing into a provider who not only provides excellent clinical care but also advocates for health equity while contributing to the advancement of healthcare through research and compassionate practice.

My Greatest Strengths

Observant: One of my greatest strengths as a nursing student is being observant. I pay attention to small details, both verbal and nonverbal. During my clinical experiences, I have learned that observation is essential for safe and effective care. This skill has helped me connect classroom knowledge and real patient situations, especially when identifying important details that may not be immediately obvious.

Compassion: Compassion is a core strength of mine, I care about treating every person with kindness, respect, and understanding. I know that patients and families often go through some of the most stressful and emotional moments of their lives, and I try to be supportive and comforting during those times. Growing up in a rural agricultural community, I saw how Spanish-speaking families and other community members sometimes faced barriers to healthcare. This experience motivates me to provide compassionate and culturally sensitive care to all patients.

Collaboration: Collaboration is another strength I have developed throughout my nursing education. I understand the importance of working as a team to provide the best patient care. I have participated in multiple interprofessional education (IPE) activities with students from different healthcare disciplines at Pacific Northwest University. This experience helped me improve my communication skills and taught me the importance of teamwork, respect, and learning from others in healthcare.
